Milada celebrates her eleventh birthday happily with family and friends despite the hardships brought on by three years of Nazi occupation in Czechoslovakia. A few weeks later, German soldiers arrest the entire village. The men and women are separated and sent to camps, but Milada and one other village girl are not. Since both girls have the blonde hair and blue eyes of Hitler’s Aryan ideal, they are sent to Germany to be retrained and adopted by loyal Nazi families. Milada struggles to remember her grandmother’s words to her on her eleventh birthday, “Remember who you are, Milada. Remember where you are from. Always.”
I loved this book. Someone named Eva was very interesting. it was really sad and happy. i never knew what nazis were but know i do

ReplyDeleteWhat torture it must be to be torn from your family in czechoslovakia, [for some reason read by me as cztechoslovika[now czech union and slovakia]] put through German lessons, and found a new family for. Not that I would know. At the end it said it had an uncanny resemblance to sonething in real life. Too bad it sounds terrible to go through. In the end, however, the main character is reunited with at least some of her family.

This book made me feel kind of sad because it was about a girl who was taken away from her home. Some parts gave me tears. I couldn't believe how some people were treated in that time.

ReplyDeleteI like this book because it was touching and sad that although a lot of Miladas family and friends died, she eventually returned to her mom after being kidnapped. she also made freinds while in captivity.

ReplyDeleteI thought the book Someone Named Eva was a great representation of how life was during World War II. I think it would have been horible to be seperated from your family. I thought that in the end the whole family should have been reunited instead of just to people being reunited.
